Fourier optics with linearly tapered waveguides: Light trapping and focusing

چکیده
An optical pulse asymptotically reaching zero group velocity in tapered waveguides can ultimately stop at a certain position the taper accompanied by strong spatial compression. This phenomenon also be observed spatiotemporal systems where reaches of front. The first system is well known from plasmonic adiabatic nano-focusing light observed. Its counterpart push broom effect nonlinear front collects and compresses signal. Here, we use slowly varying envelope approximation to describe such systems. We demonstrate an analytical solution for linear piecewise dispersion show that this case resembles lens paraxial approximation. In particular, distribution focused represents Fourier transform signal input.

Dispersion properties of silicon nanophotonic waveguides investigated with Fourier optics.
We experimentally investigate the dispersion relation of silicon-on-insulator waveguides in the 1.5 microm wavelength range by using a technique based on far-field Fourier-space imaging. The phase information of the propagating modes is transferred into the far field either by linear probe gratings positioned 1 microm away from the waveguide core or by residual gratings located on the sidewalls...
متن کاملNonlinear couplers with tapered plasmonic waveguides.
We suggest and demonstrate numerically that, by employing tapered waveguides in the geometry of a directional coupler, we can enhance dramatically the performance for optical switching of nonlinear plasmonic couplers operating at the nanoscale, overcoming the detrimental losses but preserving the subwavelength confinement. We demonstrate that, by an appropriate choice of the taper angle of the ...
متن کاملFocusing of MeV ion beams by means of tapered glass capillary optics
We present evidence of the focusing effects of fine glass capillary optics for MeV He ion beams. The glass capillary optics are formed by a puller as to have inlet diameters of about 1 mm and outlet diameters of submicrons. The total length of the optics is about 50 mm. Impingent MeV ions to such optics are reflected by the inner wall several times, in a very similar process to the so-called su...
متن کاملNanofocusing in laterally tapered plasmonic waveguides.
We investigate the focusing of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) excited with 1.5 microm light in a tapered Au waveguide on a planar dielectric substrate by experiments and simulations. We find that nanofocusing can be obtained when the asymmetric bound mode at the substrate side of the metal film is excited. The propagation and concentration of this mode to the tip is demonstrated. No sign of ...
متن کاملOptical nanofocusing on tapered metallic waveguides
Tapered metal wires show a remarkable ability to ‘squeeze’ the lateral extent of a propagating surfaceplasmon-polariton (SPP) mode as it travels toward the tip of the taper. The transformation can be continued well below the diffraction limit, to terminate at a nanoscale apex where intense near-fields are created. We perform the first full numerical simulations to investigate and quantify this ...
